Wine club members will receive a special treat this week with a pre-release sneak peak of our 2015 Green Valley Pinot Noir, a wine which is shaping up, to our palates, to be one of the most complete Pinot Noirs we’ve made from Devoto Garden. This wine has all the minerality and tension of our 13s and 14s but with a return to savory black fruit and slightly lush mouthfeel of our 2010-2012s. Combined with the 2014 Russian River Pinot Noir, this is an essential kit for your holiday table, all at the spectacular club member price of $50 for these two bottlings through year end. Not a member yet? Join here and receive these two beautiful wines!
The 2017 Pinot On The River Festival is this Sunday, October 22nd, on the Healdsburg Plaza, from noon to 4pm. Thankfully Healdsburg was spared from the recent fires. In an effort to return to some semblance of normalcy, the organizers are moving forward as planned, with an understanding that some wineries will not be able to attend and that a lot of Bay Area folks will not make it. It will be more cozy, and the weather looks great. Everyone is encouraged to come as you are, to celebrate community resilience as best we can. Please use the discount code Wait17 to receive 10% off tickets here. We’ll be pouring our 2014 Pinots, our 2015 Cabernet Franc, and our 2016 Chardonnay. Hope to see you there!
Our 2016 Russian River Chardonnay will go out this week to all of our Summer Whites club members. One of our most popular wines, this vintage will likely go quickly. As some of you may recall, the winter of 2016-2017 was wet and chilly. Our secondary ferment (aka, the MLF or malo-lactic fermentation, where malic acid is converted into lactic acid by a lactobacillus bacteria) stopped about 85% of the way through due to colder temperatures in the cellar. After tasting we chose not to restart it — the remaining malic acid, we think, gives the wine a pleasing hint of green apple electricity. The wine conditions sur lie in old/neutral oak until bottled, and our diligent battonage through winter rounds out the angles. The result is a graceful Chardonnay showing us the best of its Russian River provenance: bursting with stone fruit and biscuit aromas, apple and citrus flavors, integrated over a backbone of crisp, table-friendly acids. On Sunday June 4th, please join us at one of the most entertaining events of the year: Mill Valley’s annual Wine, Beer and Gourmet Food tasting, in the charming Mill Valley downtown plaza.
