Our Fruit |
|
Our carefully selected fruit, and our relationships with our growers, are at the heart of our wines. We work with small growers and value long-term relationships. We are particularly drawn to the many expressions of the Russian River Valley AVA -- from the rich, complex flavors of the valley floor northeast of Sebastopol, California, to the cooler, soil-driven fruit of the Green Valley AVA (a sub-appellation of the Russian River AVA).
Our Devoto Garden vineyard designate Pinot Noir is made from all Devoto Garden fruit. Our Russian River Pinot is made from a blend of Amber Ridge, Devoto Garden, and Flanagan fruit. Our forthcoming Chardonnay is made from all Inspiration Vineyard fruit. |

The
Devoto Garden Vineyard is a young ridge-top site near Sebastopol in the Green
Valley of Russian River Valley AVA that Stan Devoto has been farming for over 20 years. Green Valley is the foggiest and coolest part of Russian River and is reknowned for its well-drained Goldridge soil.
Devoto Garden, on Gold Ridge Road, is certainly representative of these Green Valley characteristics: bright cool days, fog-bound evenings, and well-drained Goldridge sandy loam. Stan planted approximately
3 acres in 2005 with Dijon clone 828, with additional acreage, dedicated
to 115 and 667, planted in 2007.

Flanagan Vineyard is a gorgeous rolling site along Starr Road in the Russian River AVA, just down the road from Amber Ridge Vineyards. The diurnal fluctuations on this site are dramatic -- nice and warm during the day, then rapidly cooled by fog at night.
Originally planted by Joe Martin, founder of the venerable St. Francis Winery, the site has since been purchased by Eric Flanagan. Much of the site is planted to clone #4 and Wente Chardonnay, with 5 acres dedicated to the Pommard Pinot Noir clone. |

The
Amber Ridge Vineyard is a hillside site along Starr Road in the Russian River
AVA. Amber Ridge was planted in 2000 with Dijon Pinot Noir clones 115, 667 and 777 on
101-14 rootstock. This vineyard, previously owned by Far Niente and
now under the ownership of Nickel & Nickel, is farmed by seasoned veterans
who practice sustainable agriculture. Wait Cellars purchased fruit from this vineyard through 2010.

Inspiration Vineyard is a small, well-tended site along acclaimed Olivet Lane in the Russian River AVA. Jon Phillips owns and carefully farms 3.5 acres of clone #4 Chardonnay, most of which he dedicates to his own wines.
This area of the valley is renowned for its fog-bound nights and mornings, leading to impressive acid retention and beautiful flavors of green apple and orange rind in its Chardonnay. |
