2011 Green Valley Pinot Noir
Our 2011 Green Valley Pinot Noir is made from 100% hand-picked and hand-sorted fruit from the Devoto Garden Vineyard. Devoto Garden sits on a windy ridge west of Sebastopol in the Green Valley AVA of Sonoma County, California: a sub-appellation of the Russian River AVA, renowned for its cool temperatures and fog, and sought after for its sandy, well-drained Goldridge soil.
2011 was a cool to mild, wet year with a particularly wet spring. We missed the spring shatter that impacted yields and quality in warmer areas of the Russian River and were very proactive against mildew pressure while carrying more canopy this year.
We harvested at 22.5 brix, just before the rains in early October. The nose carries dusty cherry, cola, and tobacco aromas, followed by a firm minerality on the palate and a touch of mint on the finish. This is medium-bodied wine, elements of which unwind slowly. The light crimson color is that of natural, un-manipulated Green Valley Pinot Noir.
