Our 2009 Green Valley Pinot Noir is made from 100% hand-picked and hand-sorted fruit from the Devoto Garden Vineyard in the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA, Sonoma County, California.
This 2009 Pinot Noir is the result of a collaboration with Stan Devoto, who has been farming this site for over 20 years, focusing on organic apples and cut flowers; and since 2006, his tiny block of Dijon Pinot Noir clone 828. Bringing the young vines along in 2009 was a challenge, balancing reproductive growth with a young canopy and longer-term goals, as well as birds, gophers, deer, and turkeys on this verdant site!
We couldn’t be happier with this inaugral vintage. We were aiming for a food-friendly expression from this windy ridge, and we got it: This wine is a lean, approachable, cool-climate Pinot Noir. With black fruit and cola bean on the nose, a distinctly mineral, 'Goldridge soil' drive through the mid-palate, and a touch of mint on the finish, this is a great companion to a week-night dinner. |
